First Bank pledges support for Media Trust

The Group Managing Director of First Bank of Nigeria Plc, Mr. Bisi Onasanya has pledged the bank’s support for Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust, Weekly Trust, Sunday Trust, Kano Chronicle and Aminiya, to facilitate the discharge of its social responsibilities as a media organisation. Onasanya gave the pledge when the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust Limited, Mallam Kabiru A. Yusuf paid him a courtesy visit in Lagos at the weekend.

He expressed appreciation to the Chairman for the visit, saying that would encourage him to read Media Trust’s titles more than ever before. He reiterated that First Bank would be ready to partner with Media Trust Limited as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

“We are ready to partner with Media Trust particularly in the area of Daily Trust Annual Dialogue. We will be interested in the people who are taking part and the topic for discussion. Again, I will increase my readership of Daily Trust more than before and I want to assure you of the bank’s support,” he said.

Earlier, Malam Kabiru Yusuf had told the First Bank boss that apart from publishing highly informative, educative and entertaining newspapers, Media Trust Limited also organises Annual Daily Trust Dialogue, a yearly discourse on  contemporary national and international issues initiated by the company in 2004, and Daily Trust African of the Year Award meant to recognize and celebrate otherwise unsung, Africans who are positively touching the lives of their fellow human beings in various fields of human endeavour.

Malam Kabiru explained that the Daily Trust African of the Year Award has grown into a pan-African initiative which is managed by an advisory committee headed by the former Secretary General of the Organisation of African Unity, now African Union, Dr Salim Ahmed Salim.

The Media Trust chairman said the company is one of the leading newspaper organizations in the country, adding that its star title, Daily Trust, is also one of the most widely read newspapers in the country.

He explained that Media Trust’s titles are now printed simultaneously in four locations in the country, namely, Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Maiduguri, with a view to covering the nation effectively.
